Abraham and his family ‘did not receive the things [God] promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth’ ~ so we are told in Hebrews 11.
- What were these outstanding promises?
- How do they dovetail into the life of Jesus, and therefore become our promises?
- How do we live as people trusting God’s promises today?
The stories of the patriarchs ~ the founding fathers of our faith ~ have much to teach us about patient hope in God, and about how to live distinctly for God, even with foibles and failures.
