Parish update

Sunday Special: 9th August

St John's, Levens | St Peter's, Heversham | St Thomas', Milnthorpe

There shall be two options for Sunday morning,
the Church service from St John's and a Zoom service led by Linda.

Parish Communion

St John's, Levens at 10.30 am.

The Bishops strongly advise that face coverings should be worn by all those attending a place of worship, including ministers, worshippers, staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors, where there may be other people present; remembering that they are mainly intended to protect other people, not the wearer, from coronavirus COVID-19 and that they are not a replacement for physical distancing and regular hand washing.

Sunday Hub:

A service of prayer and Bible reading at 10.30. Please note the new link address.

To join via Zoom, click the blue button in Bryan's email.

To listen on the phone, call either of the numbers in Bryan's email.

These are UK numbers (London and Edinburgh dialling codes) so if you have free UK weekend calls, there should be no charge.

CHURCHES OPEN FOR PUBLIC WORSHIP

We intend to have one church open at 10.30am each Sunday for a single service for the three parishes.

16th August St Peter’s, Heversham
23rd August St Thomas’, Milnthorpe
30th August St John’s, Levens

There is no restriction on the numbers for Sunday services, except what is physically possible to maintain social distancing. The figure of 30 max is for weddings and funerals.

From 8 August, face coverings are required by law to be worn in a greater number of public indoor settings including places of worship.

Those who are leading services, and those who assist them (for instance by reading, preaching, or leading prayer) do not always need to wear a face covering, although one should be worn especially if physical distancing cannot be maintained (i.e. distributing consumables).

We would advise those attending to observe social distancing and hand washing. Not all pews will be available, in order to observe proper distance. Hymn singing is not permitted but we hope to have suitable music played in services.

Holy Communion will be given in one kind (bread) only, as directed by church guidelines.

Refreshments will not be offered following the service, but if parishioners wish to bring their personal coffee in flasks, that would be possible. In favourable weather we could catch up outdoors following the service.

The order of service will be available as a download each week and we would encourage people attending to bring their own copies.

Daily Hope offers music, prayers and reflections as well as full worship services from the Church of England at the end of a telephone line.
The line – which is available 24 hours a day on 0800 804 8044 – has been set up particularly with those unable to join online church services during the period of restrictions in mind.
Options available include materials also available digitally by the Church of England’s Communications team such as Prayer During the Day and Night Prayer updated daily, from Common Worship, and a recording of the Church of England weekly national online service.
A section called Hymn Line offers callers a small selection of hymns, updated daily. An option entitled ‘Hymns We Love’, provides a hymn and reflection.

The Cumbria Ecumenical Spirituality Group
has issued the following prayer.

Loving God, as your Son healed the sick
and brought good news to the needy,
be with us this day.

Loving Jesus as you taught us to
'Do unto others as you would have them do to you',
be with all the medical staff this day.

Loving Spirit, your gift is healing,
Bring your healing fire to our homes, our hospitals and our county,
but most of all, be with us this day. Amen
