How do I arrange a baptism (christening)?
In baptism, we thank God for the gift of a life and
respond to the love that He has shown to us in Jesus.
The Christian tradition is traced back to Jesus himself
being baptised in the river Jordan.
During the baptism service, the person being baptised
declares their Christian belief and promises to follow
Jesus as a disciple.
In the Anglican Church, as well as baptising adults, it
is also common to baptise young children (this is
sometimes known as christening). In this case, the
parents and Godparents declare faith and make
promises for them.
Some parents prefer to have a service of thanksgiving and dedication for their child, so that the child can decide, later in life, whether they want to be baptised.
At St Peter’s, baptisms usually take place during an All Age Worship service usually the fourth Sunday of the month, at 9.30 am.
If you would like to talk about either baptism or a service of thanksgiving, please Send an email message to Revd Bryan Kerr, Vicar.
