A Living Hope and a Lasting Home

A look at 1 Peter.

Peter’s first letter is addressed to
God’s chosen people ~ a people in exile.
That sounds like a description of Israel
in the Old Testament,
but Peter is writing to the Church, both Jewish and Gentile Christians.

He reminds them that they live as strangers and exiles here on earth, out of step with the prevailing culture, and may face suffering and persecution as a result.

How can we bear to live this way? Peter places our true home in heaven as the focus of our lives. His letter is also full of stirring challenge and practical encouragement to live good lives among people around us, even when that means suffering and heartache.
